An Epic Battle

Come March 20th 2015, I will be under serious professional combat. I will be defending my thesis titled,
“Development of a Guided Inquiry Laboratory to Enhance Students’ Understanding of Law of Mechanical Energy Conservation”.

Considering the significant role of energy in understanding natural phenomena, this study, probably the first of its kind in Bhutan, has developed a simple hands-on model to demonstrate the law of mechanical energy conservation. Researchers in science, particularly physics education have revealed that the students either lack or have misconstrued the concept of the law of mechanical energy conservation. And Bhutanese students by far, are no exception based on my teaching savvy and know-how for the past 6 years.

As advocated by science educators in making complex and abstract scientific concepts into simpler and concrete ideas, this study has emphasized hands-on learning using a physical model. Learning of science through the hands-on model in this 21st century is considered as one of the most meaningful and powerful strategies that enable the students to learn by doing and establish the link between abstract ideas and physical illustrations. The findings of my study are by large, are inconsistent with the existing literature showing a statistically significant difference.

I am delighted not because my findings share the similarity with those previous studies, but I am grooming and sharpening my nerves to fight that epic professional battle. This day was one of the kinds that I always longed for. It will be a gene-altering experience for me. The days following this epic battle will certainly redefine and set a new vista in my life.

But for now, all I need is LUCK and PRAYERS.
